Lounge Act Monday: Books, backcountry and pop-punk

Posted By on January 9, 2012, 9:28 AM

Here are a few tunes and intellectual pursuits to greet the week. Not a bad way to fight off the Mondays.---

Kilby Court is hosting the DisasTOUR, a pop-punk extravaganza featuring an all-Cali-based lineup including Heart to Heart, The Sheds and Currents. The show starts at 6 p.m., and come prepared to pogo.

The King's English Bookshop is hosting a signing by author Kathryn Kay (pictured), a first-time novelist at 58, whose book The Gilder has earned critical huzzahs for its tale of an art-restoration expert returning to Florence, where she learned her trade and left several loose ends. It starts at 7 p.m.

Snowbird is hosting the Freeride Avalanche Summit Monday starting at 10 a.m., giving all sorts of skiers and boarders the knowledge they need to take care of themselves in the backcountry. And here in the valley, REI in Salt Lake City is hosting a Comfort 101 clinic, which will teach you how to layer properly for Utah's divergent climates, from the desert to the mountaintops. It starts at 7 p.m.
