Lounge Act Thursday: Christmas jams & a Phoebe Cates sighting!

Posted By on December 15, 2011, 10:05 AM

You can't fight the seasonal entertainment, so give in to the Christmas vibe already! We have some fine events to ease you into the holiday spirit.---

Thursday night is the first show of the 2nd annual Christmas Jam at One Mind Studio, where a slew of musicians from local bands will be playing rock songs with a Christmas theme, from "Jingle Bell Rock" to John Lennon's "Happy Christmas." The proceeds go to the Road Home, and there are also shows on Friday and Saturday, so check it out.

The Lower Lights, another collective of fine local musicians, is playing a Christmas show at the Masonic Temple, and while pre-sale tickets are sold out, you might be able to weasel your way in if you get there a bit before the 7 p.m. showtime.

A free flick at Brewvies is always a good thing, and the Christmas-seasoned Gremlins is a stone classic. It starts at 10 p.m., but you'll want to get there early to get a seat -- and to discuss the finer points of Phoebe Cates' career with dudes like me.

Okay, DRI isn't exactly typical holiday fare, but for old-school punks, a visit from ye olde Dirty Rotten Imbeciles to Burt's Tiki Lounge is certainly reason to celebrate. Desolate and Faceplant are also on the bill; show starts at 9 p.m.

And another not-necessarily Christmas event, but certainly related to the theme, is Ted Neeley's star turn in Jesus Christ Superstar, which is starting a lengthy run at Park City's Egyptian Theatre.
