Living legends and rising stars mark Tuesday night's action. Check it.---

A couple of years back, I was sent An Horse's debut album and immediately liked the two piece (guitar/drums, boy/girl) and their poppy rock sensibilities. Then I took a friend with me to see them play one of the tiny side rooms inside the Murray Theater, and it was in there, with maybe 20 people, tops, that I became a dedicated fan of the Aussie twosome (pictured). They're now back with a stellar second album, and I went to see them more than once during this year's SXSW music conference, so I can assure you they are still a fine time as a live band. Tuesday night, they're playing Kilby Court, along with YYBS and The Lionelle. Show starts at 7 p.m., and it's just $12 at the door.

I know many folks will be at Kingsbury Hall instead, checking out a whale of a double bill featuring Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard. Either fellow is a headliner in his own right, so putting them together is inspired stuff for any roots/country fans out there. I've seen Merle, and he's always a bit of a loose cannon, but Kristofferson is an enigma to me. Can't wait to hear how it goes. The show at Kingsbury starts at 7:30 p.m.

If you're not in a musical mood, consider hopping down to Sam Weller's on Main Street (dodge the juggalo nation) for an event with Nathan Everett, author of The Gutenburg Rubric. He'll read from his latest work, sign autographs and, in a cool twist, make bookmarks for the people on a small printing press.
