GWOP Ghettas Productions is bringing its “GWOP Swap” campaign to Salt Lake City Graffiti Lounge (342 State) on Friday, Aug. 26 at 9 p.m., with no cover charge. The event is part of a competition, for “swaps” in cities all over the West, as well as New York City, Miami and Dallas. The upcoming event brings popular Salt Lake City artists, including The Commission, Sinic Da Great and the Adrenaline Junkies together, in competition to tour with GWOP to Boise.
“The GWOP Swap is exciting because it is really one of the first of its kind in the world. The artists are being presented without the backing of a record label,” says Ron Senior, representative for GWOP Ghettas in Salt Lake City. One of the showcases’ unique aims is for artists to be able to reach new audiences. In addition, the swaps intend to advance urban culture all over the country by integrating artists from different cities.
The performers are “the ultimate display of the city’s talent,” Senior says. They are chosen to participate by the number of fans downloading their tracks and ringtones at GWOPGhettas.com and through competition at showcase events. The festival’s all-encompassing urban-culture atmosphere invites fans of hip-hop, spoken word, reggae, R&B, dance, graphic and graffiti arts and more. The real flavor of urban culture, without input from record labels, is the goal for the Swap.
