I've written about many, many wines over the years. But, I don't think I've ever focused on one that was actually featured in Backpacker Magazine. --- Which brings us to French Rabbit Chardonnay.
French Rabbit wines are produced in the south of France -- the Languedoc Roussillon region -- and are packaged in 100% recyclable, lightweight, shatterproof Tetra-Prisma containers -- 1000 ml/$10.96. This makes them perfect for stashing in a backpack for a hike, camping trip or picnic. Need wine for boating? This is a good choice.
French Rabbit wines are also produced in a sustainable, eco-friendly manner, and, don't let the "box wine" packaging fool you; this is serious wine. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks and, in order to maintain minerality, malolactic fermentation is blocked. The result is a fresh-tasting Chardonnay that isn't cloying, creamy or oaky. It's pale straw-yellow in color, with honeyed citrus aromas. Ripe peach and apricot flavors linger on the palate.
French Rabbit Chardonnay would be a great match for campfire-grilled chicken, pork, fish and seafood.
