Lounge Act Weekend: Black Francis, Sharon Jones and so much more

Posted By on July 15, 2011, 4:00 AM

So many options the next three days, you're guaranteed to wear yourself out. But you'll thank yourself in the morning for taking full advantage.---

FRIDAY

Tons of tunes to take in on Friday, starting with one of my big-time favorites in Black Francis, pictured. The Pixies leader is doing a solo acoustic show at The State Room, with local fave David Williams opening the show. Should be an excellent night if it's anything close to as good as Black Francis' last solo acoustic thing at The Urban Lounge a few years back.

Friday is also the beginning of the KRCL Hidden Hollow Concert Series, this week featuring Bronco and The Poorwills. The fun starts at 7 p.m. At the same time over at Slowtrain, Desert Noises will be playing an album release show to celebrate their upcoming Mountain Sea release on Slowtrain Records. Hyphy Crunk is spinning at The Metro on Friday night, and you can expect a big crowd to see him fill the dance floor. And The Rosebuds will perform their nearly perfect pop-rock with an edge, along with Other Lives, at The Urban Lounge.

In Centerville on Friday, you can celebrate Peruvian culture at the Festival Peruano en Utah.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, you can check out the 2nd Annual Graffiti on Girls fashion-meets-art show at Elevate at 7 p.m. And in another completely different kind of throwdown, it's Llama Fest in Spanish Fork.

At the State Room, BR549 leader and honky-tonk badass Chuck Mead headlines, while Grace Potter and the Nocturnals headline a show at the revamped Gallivan Center.

The classical-heavy Deer Valley Music Festival kicks off on Saturday with a night of symphonic takes on The Eagles. And The Sugar Space is hosting a night of Middle Eastern music and dance.

SUNDAY

Join City Weekly at Brewvies on Sunday for the season premiere of Breaking Bad

And in what could very well be the best show of the summer, or close to it, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and openers Buckwheat Zydeco are throwing down at Red Butte Garden at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available. Read our interview with Sharon Jones right here, then check out the show on Sunday.
