Lounge Act Wednesday: Get out, get super-high and get to Kilby

Posted By on May 4, 2011, 8:54 AM

The lesson for Wednesday night: Get out of the house! ---

For my money, the place to be tonight is Kilby Court, where Seattle buzz-band The Head and The Heart (pictured) are headlining a gig. The rootsy crew has been garnering rave reviews for both their self-titled debut, recently released on Sub Pop, and for their live shows. They just completed a West Coast swing with Salt Lake City's own The Devil Whale, and next month they'll return opening for Iron & Wine, but why wait?

Here We Go Magic have cruised through Salt Lake City a few times the past couple years, and their brand of dance-friendly indie-rock always makes for a fine evening. They're currently touring in support of a new EP called, simply, The January EP.

KRCL and the Downtown Alliance are hosting another of their monthly Get Out gatherings Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., this time rallying the troops to Gracie's. Drink and food specials are par for the course, along with tunes delivered by one of KRCL's DJs.

Perhaps no comic has made a career out of being stoned quite as successfully as Doug Benson (not counting pioneers Cheech & Chong, of course). The auteur of Super High Me and a regular on various VH1 talking-head shows will perform Wednesday at the West Valley City Wiseguys.
