This Tuesday serves up a mixed bag of sonic goodies, including a highly anticipated female collaboration.---

Thao and Mirah began collaborating early last year and immediately knew they had a good thing going. The duo worked out songs touring the country last Fall and have finally dropped their highly anticipated self-titled album, Thao and Mirah. The female rockers complement each other exquisitely well over intricate instrumentation. The album was co-produced by Merill Garbus of Tune-Yards, who adds her big, vibrant spin on things. This is the best bet for the week, if not for the first half of the year. Listen to "Eleven" below.

Laura Stevenson’s sophomore release Sit Resist is an indie-rock gem exhibiting floating melodies and Stevenson’s pretty voice, while not sacrificing a good, driven beat. She'll be playing Bar Deluxe this Friday and you can download this album for free here to prep for the show.

On the folky side of things, D.C.-based Vandaveer puts out a smooth effort on Dig Down Deep, befit with delicate and haunting ballads. Lead singer Jesse Elliot’s deep falsetto is reminiscent of Michael Glabicki from Rusted Root on an album that is surprisingly excellent.

Any band on Sufjan Steven’s label Asthmatic Kitty deserves at least a minimum amount of curious listening. Jookabox puts out The Eyes of the Fly. The effort is odd, danceable and overall enjoyable.

Classic artists that rarely disappoint, Steve Earle and Emmy Lou Harris, come out with I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive and Hard Bargain, respectively, to round out the week’s new music.
