Aspiring musicians have rare opportunity to learn from some of the best in the music industry at the Soundcheck Expo, sponsored by the Legacy Music Alliance, held April 23 at Sundance.---
2010 Grammy Award Winner Tim Fagan and LA pop artist Kari Kimmel will headline the day-long event and lead workshops for anyone who wants to take their music to the next level. Attendees also have the opportunity to have their songs or lyrics critiqued by a panel of experts, attend q-&-a sessions with top industry professionals and showcase their talents through live performances.
Kimmel has achieved great songwriting success, with more than 100 of her songs appearing in TV and film, including Dreamgirls, The Young and the Restless and Gilmore Girls. The Backstreet Boys, Keisha and Gloria Gaynor have also recorded her songs.
Fagan, who snagged the Grammy for his song Lucky, performed by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat, says that during workshops he likes to take a first listen to a song and respond to it on a gut level. “I like expressing my opinion simply from the perspective of fresh ears, before any other brainy gears kick in,” he said. He also likes to share his story as a fellow songwriter. “Hopefully to shed some light on the good, the bad and awesome things that come with making a life in music,” he added.
Fagan is currently working with artists and writers through SONY/ATV. He is also looking forward to performing a solo set to wrap up the Soundcheck Expo. “After telling attending songwriters, ‘you know what you oughta do…’, they can just sit back and laugh at the professor," he said.
Doubt anyone will laugh at Fagan, who just finished traveling around the world on tour with Caillat.
