TV Weekend: Natasha Leggero, Tim & Eric, Shameless & More

Posted By on March 25, 2011, 1:28 PM

This just in: Fox has renewed Fringe for a fourth season! This just in-er: FX has canceled Lights Out (but the remaining two episodes will air). Yay! and Damn … ---

What’s new this weekend:
Comedy Central Presents: Natasha Leggero (Comedy Central, tonight) Whitney Cummings may be all the rage right now but, for my basic-cable money, the funniest comedienne working right now is Natasha Leggero. Her “female jokes” are never predictable, her delivery and timing are dead-on, and she’s held her own on-screen many a time with some of the best male comics around. Oh, and she’s hot.

Funny or Die Presents (HBO, tonight) Season Finale: Speaking of comedy … no, let’s talk about Funny or Die, instead. The series has been extremely hit-and-miss; tonight’s Season 2 finale features two guys who are the definition of Hit & Miss—Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, they of Adult Swim’s Awesome Show, Great Job. But, this sounds promising: They’re presenting their Official Sundance Selection, The Terrys.

Also new tonight:
Kitchen Nightmares, Fringe (Fox); Shark Tank (ABC); Who Do You Think You Are? (NBC); Real Time With Bill Maher, The Ricky Gervais Show (HBO); The Onion News Network (IFC); The Soup (E!)

No Ordinary Family (ABC, Saturday) Special Night: “Special,” as in “We have a Dancing With the Stars special to run in your timeslot next Tuesday, suck it.” Or, “You’re pretty much canceled, so maybe we’ll just leave you on Saturdays.” Either way, not good. Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz deserve better than this—they also deserve better than No Ordinary Family, really.

Also new Saturday:
Scream of the Banshee (Syfy); Being Human (BBC America); Norm Macdonald: Me Doing Stand-Up (Comedy Central)

Shameless (Showtime, Sunday) Season Finale: Read all about it in True TV (Item 1).

Californication (Showtime, Sunday) Season Finale: Read all about it in True TV (Item 2).

Mildred Pierce (HBO, Sunday) Miniseries Debut: Read all about it in True TV (Item 3).

Also new Sunday:
Secret Millionaire (ABC); America’s Next Great Restaurant, Celebrity Apprentice (NBC); The Amazing Race, Undercover Boss, CSI: Miami (CBS); The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, American Dad (Fox); Army Wives (Lifetime); Sister Wives (TLC); The Real Housewives of Orange County (Bravo); Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Holly’s World (E!); Lisa Lampinelli: Tough Love (Comedy Central); Breakout Kings (A&E)

Preview: HBO’s Mildred Pierce: So good and so long, it gets two trailers:
