Lounge Act Monday: Undeniable tunes all over town

Posted By on February 7, 2011, 9:39 AM

With a weekend full of City Weekly Music Awards showcases, not to mention the day-drinking associated with the Super Bowl, you might think Monday is a good time to chill for an evening. Sorry, we're not going to let that happen.---

There's just too much good stuff happening on this fine day to go quietly into that good Monday night.

Take the Apex Manor gig at The Urban Lounge. This project evolved out of the demise of The Broken West, but bandleader Ross Flourney's new project might be even better than his defunct one. You can get the details and check a vid of Apex Manor right here.

If gentle indie-folk and pop isn't your bag, you might want to consider Interpol's headlining gig at In The Venue, the band's first Utah stop since enigmatic bassist Carlos D left the band. Thankfully, singer Paul Banks is still in the fold, providing that sonorous lead voice for one of this year's Coachella headliners. Again, Interpol details and a vid are right here for your perusal.

As for me, I'll be chilling out to the sounds of Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, headlining tonight at Kingsbury Hall at the U. The group's latest project explores the blues and soul of the American South and similar sounds found in the Basque region of Spain. Should be a great one.

Finally, if music isn't in your plans for the evening, Westminster College is hosting what seems to be an intriguing discussion on Terrorist Funding: The War Behind the War on Terror. It's free and starts at 7 p.m.
