Christo Comes to Utah

Posted By on February 3, 2011, 9:54 AM

The event doesn't take place until the spring, but you'll want to act now to spend an evening with a living artistic legend. ---

Celebrated environmental artist Christo -- whose large-scale installations with his late life and creative partner, Jeanne-Claude, included 2005's "The Gates" in New York's Central Park (pictured), as well as 1991's "The Umbrellas" in California and Japan -- will visit Kingsbury Hall on April 19 to discuss two works-in-progress begun before Jeanne-Claude's passing. "Over the River" will feature reflective, translucent fabric panels over a nearly 7-mile stretch of the Arkansas River in Colorado; "The Mastaba" will be a 492-foot high structure in the United Arab Emirates composed entirely of oil barrels. Students at the College of Fine Arts and College of Architecture and Planning will also have the opportunity for a brief visit on that date.

The Kingsbury Hall presentation is free to the public, but tickets were available at KingTix.com, 801-581-7100 as of yesterday. Act now for this unique opportunity.
