Lou Reed at Sundance! THAT, I care about

Posted By on January 6, 2011, 3:13 PM

As usually happens this time of year, rumors and gossip about musicians playing events affiliated with the Sundance Film Festival—officially and not—are starting to fly.---

Most of the time, the reality is pretty underwhelming, and so it is this year thus far. Third Eye Blind at the Star Bar? Who could possibly give a shit? Snoop Dogg at Harry O's? What, again?

The artists booked for the Music Cafe, open only to credential holders, offer a bit more, ranging from Josh Ritter to St. Vincent to Guster to the Civil Wars. And Robert Randolph and the Family Band are doing both a public show at the Star Bar, and a festival gig at the Kimball Art Center.

The first thing to really catch my eye, though, was a press release today announcing that Lou Reed would headline the annual Celebration of Music in Film party on Sunday, Jan. 23 at the Kimball Art Center.

Reed's on the scene with his own short film, Red Shirley, so the fest organizers wisely tapped the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Velvet Underground vet to play this party. It's only open to folks with film-fest credentials, but I'm sure the creative locals out there might find their way in.
