Lounge Act Weekend: Soul, sports and tall tales

Posted By on November 5, 2010, 7:42 AM

All the headlines this weekend will be about the Utah football team and the Real Sandy, er, Real Salt Lake playoff game, but there's plenty going on for the artistically and musically inclined.---

Friday night, for example, you can't beat the soul sounds of Mayer Hawthorne, who is headlining a gig at The Urban Lounge. And over at The Woodshed, Boston pop-rock duo Aloud headline a show that also includes local faves Bronco and La Farsa.

The Salt Lake Art Center has a new show open to the public, Honeymoon, and the City Weekly Street Team will be setting up shop at Quantum UltraLounge.

On Saturday, you can experience The Canterbury Tales like you never have before, acted out in front of you while you grub on food of the era. The Kimball Art Center is hosting a show featuring early works of Ansel Adams, while the Doomtree Collective headlines shows at both Kilby Court and The Urban Lounge; read our profile of the crew right here.

Sunday, the City Weekly Street Team will be kicking it at Craft Sabbath, and later on, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin headlines a gig at Kilby Court, while Slowtrain hosts a CD release party for Band of Annuals offshoot The American Shakes (pictured).
