KRCL Radiothon: Circus Brown

KRCL 90.9's Fall Radiothon '09 ends tomorrow, which means today will be the last day morning DJ Jamie Gadette drags into the City Weekly office like a war refugee, muttering "The horror, the horror ..." under her breath. Friday also means it's time for Circus Brown to bring it all home with Not a Sideshow tonight. ---

Not that Circus hasn't already been pitching in: He's guested on KRCL evening shows most of Radiothon week, and also has a funny fund-drive video on KRCL's homepage, once again proving he's the station's No. 1 True Believer volunteer--if public radio had more like him, they'd probably only have to do this once a year.

Likewise, Not a Sideshow (which may or may not still be the title--but I'm calling it that) has been a full-service community radio program since 2005, when Circus took over the Saturday-night slot from the beloved Punching Judy show (which, at the time, was akin to replacing Paula Abdul on American Idol--except this involved actual music). In addition to a wide selection of eclectic indie-rock and loopy banter, Circus also made local bands a staple of his show, playing their tunes and proactively inviting (i.e. sometimes almost dragging) SLC musicians into the studio for live performances on a regular basis. Going an extra-extra mile, he'd make recordings of the performances available on his Snackbox CD compilations and, eventually, show podcasts.

Since January, Circus Brown and Not a Sideshow has been in KRCL prime-time: Friday nights 8-10:30 pm. Make a pledge via Circus tonight; he's earned the (tax-deductible) dough.
