We're No. 17! We're No. 17!

The winter 2009 issue of MovieMaker Magazine includes its annual survey of the best American cities for making movies. According to a press release, the survey took into account economic factors (tax credits for filmmakers, cost of living), physical facilities (local talent pool for crews, film schools) and standard-of-living statistics (crime rates, school quality). And apparently, if you want to make a movie, Chicago is the place to do it.

But Salt Lake City made the list at #17, trailing locations like Sedona, Ariz., Memphis and Milwaukee. We did, however, manage to squeak out ahead of Boise, Wilmington (N.C.) and Des Moines. Watch out for that influx of Idaho auteurs any day now. Will no one protect our borders?
