Hello to all you film-watching, dance-performing, band-battling, costume-wearing, where-the-hell-did-all-these-events-come-from enthusiasts! Today is jam-packed with events across the city, including An October Evening over at the Masonic Temple, Anime Banzai taking over Layton, Vendor's Boot Camp at the Art Barn, the last Summer Flea of the year at the Equestrian Park and many others. I myself will be at Muse Music tonight helping judge their Battle Of The Bands for 2014, so drop by there if you wanna get your picture taken. In lieu of a 337 Wall update (going on three months now), here's a look at some random art by Daniel Overstreet from downtown SLC.


Looking ahead at the next two weeks, there really isn't much to discuss. Or sure, there's a TON of pre/current/post Halloween parties to discuss at almost every venue imaginable, but the majority of them this year are the ones where you just go dressed up as something sexy or ironic, sipping on watered down drinks while a DJ plays a remix of Oingo Boingo's “Dead Man's Party” in the background. Maybe there's some lazer lights, I don't know. Point being: most of what I could promote is all going to be the same shit you'll see everywhere else. So we'll focus on the stuff that might not get a ton of hype. Like on Wednesday, October 22, Brewvies will host a screening of Growing Cities, in celebration of Food Day. The show is free, but there's a suggested $5 donation for the film, which starts at 7 p.m.


On Thursday, October 23, the 801 All Stars will take over the Shred Shed for a Hip Hop Music & Art Show. This is going to be a badass evening featuring a slew of local musicians and emcees, along with street and resident artists yet to be named. All for a cheap ticket of $7 that night. You should probably go check it out.


On Saturday, October 25, grab your running shoes and your lightest cosplay outfit as the first annual Hero Dash will take place in Liberty Park. Starting at 1pm, organizers will kick off a 5K run to rasie money and awareness for Operation Underground Railroad, Huntsman Cancer Institute and Utah Rotary End Polio Now Campaign. After the race there will be a concert by Alex Boye at the park. If you’re a runner, you should probably go take part in this very short and very worthy run.


The next day on October 26, the Geek Show Podcast will hold their annual Halloween Movie Night at Brewvies. Aside from showing two films, Poltergeist and The Frighteners, there will be a massive costume contest between films for awards and prizes. The films and competition are free, but the food and drink are not. Be sure to tip the waitstaff.


And finally, the majority of events next week are Halloween related, so we'll highlight one of the few that aren't directly season. The last of the Acoustic West Concert Series will take place on Halloween Night at Mestizo Coffee. This evening will feature Genre Zero along with Halloween themed events. The show is completely free and starts at 7 p.m.


As for the blog, we'll continue to keep you in the mystery, but there's going to be a lot from the performing arts side of things. As always, we'll see what happens.
