Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, There seems to be a lot of questions surrounding the new law regarding cellphone use while driving. But I assure you that this legislation is pretty darn straight forward. Basically, you can still talk on your mobile device. However, you can no longer manipulate your phone, this includes texting, tapping, handling, diddling, fingering, rubbing and stroking your phone. Keep in mind, drivers can still kneed, fondle, caress, kiss, nudge and palpitate their mobile devices.--- Anything happening this weekend more cut and dry than Utah's new cellphone laws? - Chief Chris Burbank, SLCPD
Chief Burbank, it seems to me the easiest solution here is to just ban cellphone use in cars, period. But, what do I know? Here's what;s happening this weekend, starting with Friday's events:
Heavy metal band Devil Driver will be at In The Venue this evening. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $22.
Local rapper Burnell Washburn will be throwing a CD Release Party for his new album Gratitude tonight at Kilby Court. There will be plenty of local support opening up as well as Rhymesayer emcee Toki Wright. The show starts at at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15.
Former Smiths frontman Morrissey will be at Kingsbury Hall tonight. Kristeen Young is also on the bill. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $55.
Drummer and composer Steve Lyman will be at The State Room. Corey Christiansen will warm it up. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.
Local rock band Max Pain and The Groovies will be at Urban Lounge. Dark Seas and Breakers are also on the bill. The music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5.
Satrurday's events:
The Living Traditions Festival will be going down at the City and County Building all day today. Admission is free!
For some roller derby action, check out the Junction City Roller Dolls May Bout at the Golden Spike center at 6 p.m.
Rapper Riff Raff will be at The Complex this evening. Grandtheft and House of Lewis is also performing. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $22.
Real Salt Lake will be taking on the Colorado Rapids tonight at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday's events:
Rock bands Cage The Elephant and Foals will be at The Depot tonight. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30.
Local band Koala Temple will be at Kilby Court this evening. The show show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6.
Afrobeat/funk band Orgone will be on stage at The State Room. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.
