Tuesday, Feb.7, Salt Lake City will hold a public hearing on proposed maps that will ,hopefully, define SLC’s communities of interest and set the maps to guide voters in electing future city-council and school-board representatives.---

This is local politics at its most important -- drawing the maps that unite communities in fair voting boundaries. You will want to make sure you can roll up your sleeves and look over the maps and offer feedback to the Salt Lake City Council at this special public hearing before the council finalizes maps at a later date. If you miss the chance now, there won't be another city-level redistricting process until after the 2020 census.

For a look at some of the issues involved in the Salt Lake City redistricting process and how it can affect representation of Salt Lake City's schoolchildren, check out this week's article in City Weekly.

To speak up and speak out, come to the hearing on the maps Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake City and Council Building, Room 315.
