Rolling Stone Cover Contest: Fictionist

“A local band out of Utah winning would be huge,” keyboardist Jacob Jones said.
The band met at Brigham Young University, and Fictionist formed in 2008. Jones describes the band as an American rock band influenced by a lot of UK classic rock bands, including Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, with a touch of pop music.
Fictionist released their first album, Invisible Hand in 2009 and toured in Utah, California and Nevada. The band’s second album, Lasting Echo, was released in 2010. Soon after, the band played venues all over the country, including SXSW in Austin, Texas, and captivated audiences with their blend of psychedelia and peppy indie rock.
The Rolling Stone contest, sponsored by Garnier Nutris, ends with the winning band appearing on the cover of the Aug. 19th issue. Readers vote by going to RollingStone.com and rating the band and its 15 competitors. The top four bands and another four chosen by Rolling Stone editors fly to New York City in March where they will record two songs and perform for Rolling Stone, AOL Music editors and Altantic Records exectives.
After several more rounds of voting, the final two will perform at Bonaroo Music & Arts Festival in June. Readers then vote to determine the winner, which is a big deal since Rolling Stone has never let the public makes its cover decision.
Jones said he thinks the contest is “really, really cool.”
“Its an opportunity to get our name out. And we are excited to have the chance to take our music to an audience that hasn’t heard it before,” he said.
