Oh,
its Valentine's Day? Yeah... I'm single, so let's skip that one.
Here's the latest from the 337 Memorial Wall.

--- So the CWMA
finals happened yesterday evening. Popped in to see the finalists,
have some drinks, chat and catch up with people.
Jon Paxton,
cool
dude, mighty tall with a beard and a great writer to boot, he took my
picture, actually a couple times in the past month, I wonder if he
knows that... And that's all the name dropping I'm doing because its
tacky to do,
but much thanks to Jamie Gadette and the
City Weekly folks for
the whole shabang. I had fun.
The Furs and Neon Trees were the only two locals
able to make it, both gave damn fine performances. At the end of the
night it was the Trees who took the final prize. Don't know what
they're going to do with $3,000... probably new equipment or
something. I say go all out and get matching tattoos. And for those of you who are interested,
City Weekly
has a double-disk of local hits called “Mix Tape.” Go find it
and listen to what your music scene has to offer. I also wrote some
reviews for many of the shows that took place leading up to the finals,
which you can check out on their new
Music Blog.
In more
music news, another punk band bites the dust this winter as
The Playdead Movement officially broke up. Breaking the news today over
a MySpace bulliten, a statement was issued as a group. “We regret to inform
you that Playdead Movement has taken its final bow. We would like to
thank you all for your love and support over these past four years.
It really means alot to us. Thank you for coming to shows, and
supporting us anyway you could. We went through many line up changes
in our run. So when this last line up was having troubles we decided
to just lay it down.” Now whether you liked them or not, you have
to give them respect for sticking it out so long with an ever
changing lineup, not to mention putting out a fine EP and being one
of the first local bands to play X96's BASh. Punk bands are just
dropping like flies this year. The only project so far that's sprung
from the breakup is one called
Problem Daughter, which includes
former Vanzetti Crime drummer Trey.
The calendar has been updated,
including the next Tower Theater Open Mic Night, set right now for
March 18
th. So all you local film makers, get to work on
your short films and prepare for a new year's worth of showcases. As
for this blog expect interviews on the way the next few weeks from
Tin Angel Cafe, Free Speech Zone, Plan-B Theatre Salt City Derby
Girls, February Stroll and
SLUG. Plus more being
planned for March, but as always we'll see what happens.
